What is a Parish Pastoral Council?
In April 2007 Fr Dominique invited nine parishioners to join with him in setting up a Parish Pastoral Council. Basically this is a consultative group drawn from within the parish to work with the parish priest, offering advice and suggestions on ways parish life can be encouraged and developed, with the aim of involving as many parishioners as possible in that life.
Who are the members?
With this in mind, the preliminary group of councillors has been chosen to represent as wide a cross section of the parish as possible. The current members are: Colin Beyer, Jeff Corker, Lukasz Druzcic, Sally Dunsire, Pamela Ellis, Kelly Lynch, Gerald Middleton, Anne O’Donnell and Eileen Walker, with Fr Dominique as chairperson. Between them they are involved in a variety of activities, such as (in no particular order): SVP, UCM, Bible Study Group, Children’s Liturgy, welcoming, Sunday morning coffee, music, ministry of the Word, Eucharistic ministry, links with the Polish community, Fairtrade, finance, youth. The appointment of the present members is intended as a way of getting the council off the ground. Eventually all members will be elected by the parish.
What does it do?
The PPC meets approximately four times a year. Obviously the best way for it to serve the parish is to address issues of concern to parishioners. With this in mind, a Suggestion Box has been provided at the back of church for any ideas, suggestions, proposals etc concerning the direction in which the parish might develop. All suggestions will be discussed at the next meeting of the PPC, which also produces a news sheet to provide feedback to the parish about its activities.
